Reiki Healing Sessions & Reiki Training

Heal yourself, heal the world

If you’ve ever looked into alternative ways to heal physical, emotional, mental or spiritual ailments,

you may have come across Reiki.

But what exactly is it? And how can it help you feel more vibrant, healthy, and peaceful?

We’ve answered your most frequently asked questions about Reiki here.

Want to experience the benefits of Reiki first-hand?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing. It helps adults, children, and even animals by releasing energetic blocks in the mental, spiritual, and physical bodies.

Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us. Regardless of what we may choose to call that energy, it’s what causes us to be alive in these bodies.  If your level of this life force energy is low, you’re more likely to feel stress and get sick. If it’s high, you experience greater health, happiness, and have the energy to do the work you love in life.

A Reiki practitioner can direct this universal energy to the areas of your body that need it most. This initiates the release of stress and negative emotions in the body. Reiki works great in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki clears blocks and imbalances in your chakras and energetic body, helping you:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Boost immunity and well-being

  • Ease tension and deepen relaxation

  • Strengthen intuition and psychic abilities

Reiki can be used to direct energy towards any aspect of your life that needs improving. That could include health, relationships, communication, or spiritual connection.

As a catalyst for renewal, Reiki can help you make healthier choices to maintain your well-being.

What can be treated with Reiki?

Reiki can have a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer, leukemia, etc.

Reiki has also been shown to reduce side effects of other medical treatments. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression.

It can lead to faster healing, reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital. In some cases people have experienced complete healings which have been confirmed by medical tests before and after the Reiki treatments.

Can Reiki cure me?

Reiki is not medicine. While it’s shown to be effective in reducing pain levels - including for palliative care, cancer, and post-surgical patients, it does not claim to treat specific symptoms or disease.

Reiki is a stream of complimentary, intelligent energy. As such, it heads right where you need it most.

Reiki works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and can help improve the results.

Reiki has been shown to improve patient outcomes, reduce the need for pain medications and further interventions, speed up recovery times, as well as reduce patient anxiety and stress.

How does Reiki work?

We’re all made of energy. Energy creates form and matter. When you experience mental, emotional, or spiritual difficulties in life, this life energy gets blocked in your body. Reiki works by the channeling of energy from the practitioner’s hands into the client’s body and energy field.

Most disease starts at the mental and emotional level first, escalating to physical pain or symptoms later. Reiki releases blocks at these deeper energetic levels rather than simply placing a band-aid over symptoms. As the body regains the energy that was blocked, it can now use it for healing.

Reiki encourages the release of tension, anxiety, fear and other negative feelings in the mind and body. This leads to relaxation and promotes the healthy functioning of cells, tissues, and organs.

Where does Reiki come from?

Reiki is a Japanese Spiritual practice. It was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui who established the first Reiki clinic and school in Tokyo, Japan in the 1920s.

Dr. Usui trained several Reiki masters to ensure that Reiki would continue to bring healing for ages to come. Since then, qualified Reiki masters have been using their gifts to share healing with others and to train more new Reiki practitioners around the world.

Reiki was brought to the United States by a Japanese-American woman named Hawayo Takata. After experiencing a miraculous healing by one of Dr. Usui’s students, she began the dedicated and intense journey of studying and practicing Reiki with Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a former naval surgeon and disciple of Dr. Mikao Usui.

With Hayashi’s blessing, Takata went on to become a Reiki Master Teacher; establishing her Reiki center in Hawaii. She began practicing and teaching Reiki throughout Hawaii, and eventually throughout the US and North America.

What can I expect during a Reiki treatment?

Reiki can be performed effectively through distance healing or in person. When done in person, you will either lay down or sit comfortably while the Reiki practitioner places their hands on or near your body in a series of hand positions, allowing the Reiki energy to flow.

During a Reiki treatment, most people experience feelings of deep relaxation and relief. Many feel a wonderful glowing radiance or a warm tingly feeling as they experience the flow of universal life energy through their body.

Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, you’ll feel refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

How many treatments are needed?

This depends on what you are hoping for from Reiki.  As a natural healing method, it’s best to allow some time for Reiki to have an effect, so a series of treatments may be more beneficial than a single treatment in most cases.

Reiki works best when received on a regular basis. The healing goes deeper and deeper as you receive it more regularly

Can anyone give or receive Reiki?

The beauty of Reiki is that it can work for everyone - regardless of background, nationality, or belief system. It is a healing method that can be brought to or practiced by people from all walks of life.

Whether you have a religious or spiritual affiliation or consider yourself to be atheist or agnostic, you can experience the benefits of Reiki without subscribing to any belief systems or ideologies.

How do I prepare for a Reiki treatment?

If you’ve booked a Reiki healing session, here are some tips to help you experience the most benefits:

  1. Be well hydrated and not hungry.
Avoid eating a heavy meal right before, but make sure hunger doesn’t distract you during the session.

  2. If possible, refrain from or lower your caffeine consumption the day of your treatment.
Do not go into caffeine withdrawal, but instead opt for black or green tea, or dark chocolate on the day of your session.

  3. Please refrain from alcohol and non-prescription drugs on the day of your session.
Both should also be avoided for 24-48 hours after treatment.

  4. Take some time to reflect before your session.
Is there an intention you would like to set for your session?  Are there things you wish to discuss first? Are there specific areas of your body with pain, illness, or tension that you'd like us to focus on?

If you’ve booked an in-person Reiki healing in our Edgewater, NJ studio:

  • We recommend wearing comfortable, non restrictive clothing.

  • Removing all metal jewelry and crystals so the energy can flow unadulterated is best.

  • Please refrain from wearing scented products; including perfume, essential oils, strong deodorants, or body sprays.

“Reiki is Love, Love is wholeness, wholeness is balance, balance is wellbeing, well being is freedom from disease.”

— Dr. Mikao Usui

Want to learn how to heal others with Reiki?

Take Reiki classes and become a Certified Reiki Practitioner.

Becoming a Reiki practitioner starts with getting attuned and certified for Reiki levels I and II.

These help you learn the principles of Reiki, Reiki symbols, healing hand positions, as well as how to use Reiki for distance healing and in person.

Level I helps you learn about the history of Reiki and introduces ways you can heal yourself, open your intuition, and clear energetic blocks. At Level II, you gain more skills to practice healing others and to continue awakening on deeper levels.

If you’re fully committed to healing others through this practice and wish to train and attune new teachers, you can go on to become a Reiki Master Teacher. Each Reiki Master typically requires you to have some level of experience with Reiki healing before you can receive this attunement and certification level.
